Earl A. Greene began his career as a rookie Fire Fighter in 1973 and worked his
way through the ranks to his current position. Although he has been involved in
all areas of the fire department including Fire Prevention, Hazardous
Materials, Logistics, Volunteer Fire, Administration, etc., the majority of his
30 years of fire department experience has been spent in management. He was
appointed to the position of Clark County Fire Chief on November 21, 1996.
Among the highlights of his career are his involvement in the implementation of
retrofit codes that were passed as a result of the MGM Grand and Las Vegas
Hilton Hotel Fires. Chief Greene was also instrumental in the establishment of
the Police and Fire Executives of Southern Nevada, an organization that brings
together all Sheriffs, Police, and Fire Chiefs on a regular basis to discuss
and deal with common issues.
On July 25, 2003 Fire Chief Earl Greene successfully completed the process that
awards him the professional designation of “Chief Fire Officer”-one of only 305
designated Chief Fire Officers internationally. These individuals have
demonstrated through their education, leadership and management skills that
they possess the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities required for the
fire and emergency services profession.
Chief Greene received a BA degree in Political Science with an emphasis on
pre-law from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He and his
wife Susan have been married for thirty years and are the parents of a son and
a daughter.
Chief Greene retired after 32+ years of service in February 2006.
