Welcome to the Clark County Recruit Academy

The Clark County Fire Academy prepares recruit firefighters for a long, safe, and successful career in the fire service. Clark County recruit academies follow NFPA 1001 Standard for Entry Level Firefighter and Clark County Fire Department guidelines for knowledge and skills. Upon successful completion of the recruit academy recruits are ready to test for Nevada State Firefighter I and II certification.

The academy operates Monday thru Friday 7am to 4pm but the schedule will vary depending on academy needs and educational opportunities. Recruits will attend classroom sessions in which they will be lectured and tested on material covered in NFPA 1001 and Clark County Fire Department operational publications.

Recruits will also participate in hands on training that includes, but is not limited to, hose lays, search and rescue, ladders, extrication, SCBA donning and doffing, power tools, high rise operations, rapid intervention team, hazardous materials, and swift water rescue. Recruits will also participate in daily cardiovascular and strength training. Clark County Fire Department rookie schools generally run 14 to 16 weeks in duration.

Recruit academies may begin at any time during the year summer or winter so successful recruits must be ready for any and all weather and temperature variations.

Recruits should understand that this website is simply a guide and all enclosed information is subject to change at the Fire Chief's discretion.
